PAT and FAT Electrical Testing
Checks on electrical goods to ensure they’re in a safe condition
PAT Testing
Portable Appliance Testing checks electrical goods to ensure they’re in a safe condition. Our PAT Testing will give you peace of mind by identifying electrical faults and offering advice to make sure your business avoids dangerous accidents.
The Electricity at Work Regulations are in place to prevent death or personal injury caused by electrics in the workplace. Business owners without a record of safety measures will be liable in the event of an accident and may fail to claim insurance without proof of safe practices.
A record of testing will help with any insurance claims and allow you to avoid nasty fines, so make sure you’re covered with Certified Compliance. Call 0800 334 5000 for a free no obligation quotation.
FAT Testing
Fixed appliance testing has been around for a long time but most people have only really heard about it in the past year or two. This is because the PAT testing industry had raised concerns that these appliances were being forgotten about.
It’s always been this – the electrician does an inspection of the mains wiring which includes everything powered directly by the mains, that can’t be detached without an electrician; and the PAT tester maintains all the appliances that unplug via a socket.
However some appliances that are supplied with a plug attached, or intended to have a plug, have been wired directly into the mains, using what is called a ‘Spur unit’. This is a white plastic box on the wall a bit like a 3-pin socket, except it doesn’t have any holes to plug into. Instead the cable from the appliance feeds directly into it and is secured to the main via screws and terminals. This installation has to be done by an electrician, so for continuity you’d expect the electrician to check it every so often to make sure it is safe. The perfect time to do this would be when they do the EICR, every 3-5 years in commercial buildings and every 10 in domestic settings. Call 0800 334 5000 for a free no obligation quotation.
